Noun

時宜

  1. that which is appropriate to the times or occasion
    • 所謂時務聖書舊儀以爲不合時宜非斥心中作祟 [Korean Literary Sinitic, trad.]
From: 1946, letter by Kim Yeong'ik (金永益)
Geum ji sowi sik simu ja gyeon in ji dok seongseo su guui ja, cheop iwi bulhap siui, i bicheok ji. Cha bae simjung ji il "si" ja jak su. Go si ho Wae, jeuk si geup ho sa Wae; si ho Yang, jeuk u geup ho jong Yang. [Sino-Korean]
When these people of today who are supposedly knowledgeable about the trends of these times see those who read the books of the Sages and keep to the customs of old, they always believe that they are going against what is appropriate for these times, and upbraid them. The single word "[these] times" causes perversion in the minds of these fellows. Therefore, when the times were on the side of the Japanese, they hastened to serve the Japanese; the times being on the side of the Westerners, they now hasten to submit to the Westerners.
