Etymology

From Middle Khmer añjeñ (to seek to meet or join; to invite; to request formally; etc), an extended form of Old Khmer *jeñ (to meet; to join), from which Thai เชิญ (chəən) is derived. Cognate with Modern Khmer អញ្ជើញ (ʼɑñcəəñ). Etymologically related to Thai ประเชิญ (bprà-chəən).
