Gujarati

Etymology

Inherited from Middle Gujarati माहरउं (māharaüṃ), from Apabhramsa महारउं (mahāraüṃ).

The first part of this is from Prakrit 𑀫𑀳 (maha, genitive singular), from Sanskrit मह्यम् (mahyam, dative of अहम् (aham)), and further from Proto-Indo-Iranian *mábʰyam and Proto-Indo-European *me-.
The second part of this is from Prakrit 𑀓𑁂𑀭 (kera) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-) (Prakrit 𑀫𑀫𑀓𑁂𑀭 (mamakera, “my”) is attested). See there for more.

Cognate with Assamese মোৰ (mür), Hindustani میرا / मेरा (merā), Punjabi ਮੇਰਾ (merā) and Romani miro.
