Inherited from Magadhi Prakrit 𑀲𑀘𑁆𑀘 (sacca), from Sanskrit सत्य (satya), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hsatyás (literally that which happened (and, thus, is true)), from Proto-Indo-European *h₁sn̥t-yós, from *h₁es- (to be). Doublet of সত্য (śotto).
