Inherited from Old Anatolian Turkish یَازْمَقْ (yazmaq), from Proto-Turkic *yạŕ- (to write). Cognate with Azerbaijani yazmaq, Bashkir яҙыу (yaźıw), Chuvash ҫыр (śyr), Kazakh жазу (jazu), Kyrgyz жазуу (jazuu), Turkmen ýazmak, Uyghur يازماق (yazmaq) and Uzbek yozmoq.
