Learned borrowing from Koine Greek προφυλακτικός (prophulaktikós), an adjectival formation from Ancient Greek προφυλάσσω (prophulássō), from προ- (pro-) +‎ φυλάσσω (phulássō), with semantic loan from French préservatif.[1]
