[edit]Learned borrowing from Koine Greek ἀποπληρῶ (apoplērô, “to pay a debt”) with -ώνω (-óno) suffix, from Ancient Greek ἀποπληρόω (apoplēróō, “to fill”). Compare Byzantine Greek αποπληρώνω (apoplērṓnō).[1][2][3] By surface analysis, απο- (apo-) + πληρώνω (pliróno).
