From Ottoman Turkish چكنمك (çekinmek, to pull, to draw on to one's self, to draw back and recoil through fear, scruple or dislike),[1] from Ottoman Turkish چكمك (çekmek, to pull, to draw, to attract), from Proto-Turkic *ček- (to pull, drive towards oneself),[2][3] morphologically çek- +‎ -in +‎ -ti.
