[edit]Inherited from Old Anatolian Turkish چَكْمَكْ (çäkmäk), from Proto-Turkic *ček- (“to pull toward oneself”); cognate with Azerbaijani çəkmək, Chuvash ҫак (śak), Kazakh шегу (şegu), Kyrgyz чегүү (cegüü), Salar çik, Turkmen çekmek and Uzbek chekmoq.
