[edit]Sino-Vietnamese word from 千歲, composed of 千 (“thousand”) and 歲 (“years of age”).
Compare vạn tuế (“Cycas revoluta”, literally “ten thousand years”). The Cycas species are so named likely because of their long lifespan.
