[edit]From Proto-Finnic *paksu, borrowed from Indo-Iranian; compare Sanskrit बहु (bahu, “much, many, abundant”), from Proto-Indo-European *bʰn̥ǵʰús (“thick”). Akin to Estonian paks. Probably also related to Erzya покш (pokš, “big, adult”).
