Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Vietic *laːs. Cognate with Muong Bi lãi. Compare also Pacoh leah (“to lick”).
The Northern Middle Vietnamese forms lưởi, lưỡi are attested in the Dictionarium Annamiticum Lusitanum et Latinum (1651).
