- From Old Polish zobać, from Proto-Slavic *zobati, from Proto-Indo-European *ǵebʰ-.
- From dziubać, from Proto-Slavic *ďubati, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰewbʰ-é-ti, from the root *dʰewbʰ- (“deep”).
