Etymology 1

[edit]

Cognate with Tho [Cuối Chăm] jɔːk⁸.

dọc (𨂔, 𫆡)

  1. alongside, side by side
  2. vertical

Preposition

dọc (𫆡)

Etymology 2

[edit]

In spite of Baxter-Sagart (2014)'s proposal, this term certainly was not directly derived from Old Chinese (OC *kə.dˤok-s) (B-S) (SV: đậu) (which yielded nóc (rooftop) instead). If there was even a relationship, it must be a borrowing from a fellow Vietic language, and from there to the Old Chinese term.
