Etymology

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish بیومك (biyümek)[1][2][3] or بویمك (büyümek, to increase in size, grow, to rise in rank or importance), from Proto-Turkic *bedü- (to become bigger, grow).[4][5][6]

Cognates with Crimean Tatar büyümek, Gagauz büümää, Karakhanid بَدُماكْ (beδümek, to grow up), Old Uyghur [script needed] (bedü-, to grow, increase), Azerbaijani böyümək (to grow up), Tuvan бедиир (bediir, to rise, go up).
