[edit]Etymology
[edit]Sino-Vietnamese word from 百 (“hundred”) and 聲 (“sound, voice”).
Semantically, compare Japanese 百舌 (mozu, “shrike”), where both the actual etymology and the consequent spelling contain an element meaning "hundred". Compare also Chinese 伯勞/伯劳 (bóláo, “shrike”), where the first element can be read in Sino-Vietnamese as bách (aside from the more common bá).
