[edit]Hello, please don't add interwikis as there is a bot to do it. You'll find a bot can update a few thousand pages a lot faster than a person can. Thanks. Mglovesfun (talk) 17:01, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
Since no one's given you these links before:
Welcome
[edit]Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.
If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.
These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:
- Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
- Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
- Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
- If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
- If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
- Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (
~~~~
) which automatically produces your username and timestamp. - You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.
Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary!
Thanks for the Kurdish entries. It would be nice to link to the Arabic alphabet forms too, if we have them. See (deprecated template usage) anđelić for an example of how we do something similar with Serbo-Croatian. Ƿidsiþ 11:34, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
Hi,
- sorry but I wanted to...George Animal 12:45, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Hi there. I have improved this page, especially by wikifying the individual words. I was surprised that we don't have entries for any of them. SemperBlotto 11:14, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
- I thank you, I will creat them.--Best regards.George Animal 11:17, 5 November 2011 (UTC)
Italian noun and adjective forms
[edit]There is no need to add these manually. We have a bot that generates them automagically. SemperBlotto 16:41, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
Header levels
[edit]==Kurdish== (and so on) must have exactly two equals signs at each side, if it's three, KassadBot (talk • contribs) will tag these as having no language. Mglovesfun (talk) 17:42, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
The plural form doesn't exist
[edit]Please check before removing plural forms. In many cases we already have the plurals as entries, and they're valid. Mglovesfun (talk) 18:19, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
- Look [here please.George Animal 18:23, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
- Yeah but those aren't relevant, especially since they're wrong. Mglovesfun (talk) 18:29, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
- Try Google. Look for Kindheiten. You'll find many uses, e.g. a book Traumatische Kindheiten, etc. de.wikt forgets some cases. Lmaltier 18:31, 6 January 2012 (UTC)
Background color
[edit]Can you change the background color of this talk page to a light color, such as white or very light brown? Black letters on brown background are fairly hard to read; even harder to read on brown background are the magenta or violet colors of followed hyperlinks. --Dan Polansky 09:06, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
Babel
[edit]Thank you for making the background color lighter.
Could you add {{Babel}}
to your user page? Something like {{Babel|ku|en-3}}
if you are Kurdish who speaks English well, or whatever fits. --Dan Polansky 14:15, 7 January 2012 (UTC)
[edit]Hey there, I'm really glad to see some attention being paid to Kurdish. I'd really like to have declension and conjugation templates (like devrim#Declension and کردن#Conjugation). If you'd like, I can help with these, and if you have any questions about anything, feel free to ask me. — [Ric Laurent] — 16:47, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Laurent,
- Thanks a lot.Maybe, you can help me by fixing this template.I will show you what should be there.Thanks again!:)George Animal 16:14, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
- Sure, what needs to be fixed? — [Ric Laurent] — 16:47, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
I wanted to add the future perfect, present perfect, subjunctive forms, but there were some problems and that's why I couldn't complete it beacuse there are 5 verb forms (verb classes) in Kurdish (Kurmanji) and I couldn't integrate them.I hope, you can understand my problem.George Animal 16:53, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
- Of course, I run into problems all the time. I think the place to start is to make Template:ku-conj/head which will define the standard shape of the template and we can have templates for the different verb classes. — [Ric Laurent] — 17:17, 19 January 2012 (UTC)
Important question
[edit]Are 1st/2nd/3rd person plural forms always the same? If not, I need to change the whole template :) — [Ric Laurent] — 18:29, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, and in the simple past/present perfect all persons are the same.George Animal 18:33, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
- Alright. In present tense, is there only one form for all the plurals, or are there different ones for "we", "you","they"? — [Ric Laurent] — 18:35, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
- No only the plural forms are the same. But how I said, the simple past and present forms are the same, for all persons.George Animal 18:37, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
- Also by other verb classes this is the same thing.George Animal 18:38, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
- Can you add a new parameter for past. The sumple past form is used to make other tenses, like present perfect, past perfect, future and future perfect.For example kirîn =to buy: simplae past: kirî, present perfect me kiriye, simple future ezê bikirim and future perfect ezê kiribim.George Animal 18:41, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
- I'm working on a new head template now. — [Ric Laurent] — 18:51, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
- Is past perfect the same for all persons? — [Ric Laurent] — 18:54, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, they areGeorge Animal 18:55, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
- Alright, we're gonna do this and it's going to be awesome :) I'm working on it now. — [Ric Laurent] — 19:05, 20 January 2012 (UTC)
Serhildan and revolution
[edit]Hi, George! You wrote that the meaning of serhildan was revolution. Doesn't serhildan originally mean «to raise one's head»? A revolution implies a deep change of power or at least of the way a Society lives, works or thinks (like the Industrial Revolution). A revolt, however, does not always lead to such a change, and the situation may return to what it was before that revolt. So in my way, serhildan can be better translated by uprising or insurrection. CathFR (talk) 20:26, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
Kurdische Übersetzungen
[edit]Hi George,
Ich habe gesehen, dass Du einige kurdische Übersetzungen zugefügt hast. Nach WT:About Kurdish sollten kurdische Übersetzungen getrennt nach Kurmanji oder Sorani geschachtelt (nested) erzeugt werden, so wie z.B. in der Übersetzung zu new (recently made or created). Du erreichtst dass im Moment, indem Du ganz unten unter im Feld Nesting: Kurdish/Kurmanji oder Kurdish/Sorani angibst. Alternativ könnte man den Programmcode so verändern, dass dies automatisch bei angabe der iso-Sprachcodes kmr bzw. ckb geschiet, was die Sache vereinfachen würde. Was meinst Du? Matthias Buchmeier (talk) 10:49, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
- Hallo Matthias
- Zuerst möchte ich mich dafür bei dir bendanken; freute ich mich wenn dies automatisch geschähe, wenn ich nur die Codes kmr/ckb eingebe.Liebe GrüßeGeorge Animal (talk) 12:29, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
- Ich habe die relevanten Skripte/Templates für automatisches Nesting entsprechend angepasst. Du musst bevor es funktioniert noch deinen Browsercache aktualisieren (Ctrl-F5, Shift-Reload, oder ähnliches) oder etwas warten bis er sich von selbst aktualisiert. Matthias Buchmeier (talk) 13:39, 18 April 2012 (UTC)
You've defined these both as "soft" — which, by the way, is not a very useful definition (since "soft" has many different meanings, and the entries give no indication of which sense you have in mind) — but then you listed them as antonyms. Are you sure that's what you meant to do?
Templates: Template:subst:User:GeorgeAnimal/ku-conj-tin-alleFormen u.s.w verschoben
[edit]Hi George, wie ich gesehen habe bist Du schon damit beschäftigt Templates zum automatischen Erzeugen der Verb-Formen zu erstellen. Ich habe die Templates in dein User-Verzeichnis verschoben (sie brauchen nicht im Template-Namespace zu sein). Das {{subst: dient übrigens zum Substituieren der Parameter {{{1}}}, {{{2}}}, u.s.w und sollte nicht Teil des Namens sein. Zum ausprobieren kannst Du {{subst:User:George Animal/ku-conj-tin-alleFormen||bîn||di|dît|bi|}} in deiner Sandox einfügen, dann sollten nach dem Speichern (oder Vorschau) die Verb-Form Einträge für dîtin entstehen (die # {{ku-verb form of|...}} Zeilen sind anscheinend nur im Wikitext sichtbar). Sobald Du fertig bist kannst Du die Verb-Formen in User:BuchmeierBot/FeedMe-Kurdish einfügen, dann mache ich einem Testlauf des Bots damit Du sehen kannst ob alle Verbformen korrekt erzeugt werden. viele Grüsse Matthias Buchmeier (talk) 15:15, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
Turkish-speaker advice needed on whether to delete some categories and templates
[edit]I recently nominated for deletion a block of categories and templates. These were for grammatical categories that would be wrong for most languages. I don't speak Turkish, however.
Your Babel box says you're a native speaker of Turkish, and you've been active on Wiktionary recently. I would appreciate it if you could look at the sections for the categories and for the templates and comment on whether they're useful, whether they should be deleted, and why (or why not). Hey there. You nominated kirin for Foreign Word of the Day. Can you cite the second sense (marry)? The pronunciation is strange (there’s an inexplicable / and vocalic ‘ɫ’s); is it correct? Having the Arabic spelling would also be nice. If you can do that I’ll add it to the nearest available day (currently October 28th). — Ungoliant (Falai) 04:51, 21 October 2012 (UTC)
- Hi Ungoliant
- Thanks for stomach (for) kirin.I have fixed the pronounciation (my fault), added the needed cite and the the Arabic spelling.OK?Best regards--GeorgeAnimal. 14:13, 21 October 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks, added it. CodeCat added some FWOTDs a few hours ago so the nearest available day was November 1st. I’d like you to take a look at the pronunciation again. You had added a non-IPA character (ı), I assumed that you mistyped ɪ, but I might be wrong. — Ungoliant (Falai) 15:09, 21 October 2012 (UTC)
- Hello again. Metaknowledge asked (here) that كرن be created before we have kirin as a FWOTD. Could you do that? Thanks. — Ungoliant (Falai) 18:27, 27 October 2012 (UTC)
- The forms you wanted were already in the list, but there were mistakes in the code (in "vistievākos", the {{{1}}} in the page name had only two closing }} instead of three }}} by mistake). So maybe if you rerun the bot now all the forms will be created?
- I've also added divisions showing where the indefinite, definite, indefinite comparative, definite comparative, and superlative forms are (search for '---HERE BEGINS'). I hope this is what you need! --Pereru (talk) 16:14, 2 November 2012 (UTC)
Danke! --Pereru (talk) 10:54, 23 November 2012 (UTC)
Neue Adjektive
[edit]OK, die neuen lettischen Adjektive sind fertig zum Eintragen. Diesmal habe ich gut gekuckt, alles ist in Ordnung. Man muss ja aus den eigenen Fehlern lernen... --Pereru (talk) 16:40, 25 November 2012 (UTC)
- Bitte schön, mache gerne.--GeorgeAnimal. 13:29, 26 November 2012 (UTC)
Ja, und noch einmal (vier) neue Adjektive fertig auf User:Pereru/Adjective forms! Aber: bei loks gibt es viele Formen, die mit Formen des Substantivs loks (“Bogen”) zusammenfallen. Der Bot muss vorsichtig sein: die Adjektivinformation muss hinzugefügt werden, ohne die (schon existierende) Substantivinformation zu löschen. --Pereru (talk) 17:20, 26 November 2012 (UTC)
Falls Du noch da bist, habe ich noch ein neues Adjektiv auf User:Pereru/Adjective forms! --Pereru (talk) 21:03, 26 November 2012 (UTC)
Gut, die neuen Adjektivformseiten sind eingetragen. Aber vielleicht hast Du ein Adjektiv (apātisks) nicht gesehen -- er war der letzte (d.h. das erste auf der Liste), das ich auf User:Pereru/Adjective forms geplatzt habe. --Pereru (talk) 21:50, 3 December 2012 (UTC)
Neue Partizipien
[edit]Auf User:Pereru/Adjective forms gibt's neue Formen -- diesmal nicht echt Adjektive, sondern Partizipien. Ich will gern ein Testrun tun, um mich zu vergewissern, dass alles in Ornung ist. Kannst Du sie per Bot eintragen? Danke, wie immer! --Pereru (talk) 21:07, 6 December 2012 (UTC)
- Einige Partizipformen (die -t Partizipformen) sind auf User:Pereru/Adjective forms aber sie sind noch nicht eingetragen -- ich habe sie als letzten eingeschrieben, vielleicht hast du sie nicht gesehen? --Pereru (talk) 21:15, 6 December 2012 (UTC)
Eine Bitte
[edit]Könntest Du mir beim Putzen helfen? Ich will die Abkürzung "q.v." in den lettischen Seiten durch "[[q.v.]]" ersetzen lassen -- so kann der Leser, dem diese Abkürzung nicht bekannt ist, sie mit einem Klick verstehen. Ich habe q.v. nur in Etymologien verwendet, also, wenn Du mir helfen willst, kannst Du nur die Seiten in der Category:Latvian etymologies from LEV mit dem Bot durchsuchen und alle q.v.'s durch [[q.v.]]'s ersetzen. --Pereru (talk) 23:06, 7 December 2012 (UTC)
- Hast Du vielleicht schon auch Zeit für die
{{context}}
->{{qualifier}}
Veränderung gehabt? --Pereru (talk) 01:25, 9 December 2012 (UTC)
Darf ich dich auch bitten, alle "cf."'s durch "[[cf.]]"'s in den Wörtern derselben Category:Latvian etymologies from LEV zu ersetzen? Nochmals Danke! (Es gibt schon neue Adjektive -- na ja, Partizipien -- auf User:Pereru/Adjective forms...) --Pereru (talk) 14:38, 10 December 2012 (UTC)
Und jetzt -- falls du es schon gemacht hast -- vielleicht auch alle "[[cf.]]" durch "[[cf]]." ersetzen, um die Links direkt zu machen? Danke! --Pereru (talk) 11:34, 13 December 2012 (UTC)
Hi. Can you add the translation of the quotation? Also, the link says “21 Adar, 2013,” but the day is listed as 27. If possible, the name of the article’s author would be nice too, but I couldn’t find it. Thanks. — Ungoliant (Falai) 13:13, 27 March 2013 (UTC)
Hello George Animal. Would you mind creating entries for the Kurdish words Lua error in Module:parameters at line 376: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "ku" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E. and Lua error in Module:parameters at line 376: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "ku" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E., please? The former is listed on your user subpage, User:George Animal/5; both have entries on Wîkîferheng (see ku:ewrkirin and ku:tarîkirin). They are apparently translations of the English word obnubilation in one or more of its senses. Thanks in advance. — I.S.M.E.T.A. 14:08, 20 November 2016 (UTC)
- Hi dear friend,
Thanks a lot. I have created the both entries. :) Best regards--GeorgeAnimal. 15:23, 20 November 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks very much. Could you tell me in what sense(s) Lua error in Module:parameters at line 376: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "ku" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E. equates to the English obnubilation, please? Judging by what I assume to be its etymology (Lua error in Module:parameters at line 376: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "ku" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E.), it equates to the literal sense “veiling with or concealment in clouds”, but does it also mean one or more of obnubilation's other three senses? And as for Lua error in Module:parameters at line 376: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "ku" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E., is it a valid translation of obnubilation in the sense “action of darkening or fact of being darkened”? What about in obnubilation's other senses? Lastly, how do Lua error in Module:parameters at line 376: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "ku" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E. and Lua error in Module:parameters at line 376: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "ku" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E. decline? Do they decline at all? They appear, to my ignorant eye, to be gerunds from the phrases Lua error in Module:parameters at line 376: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "ku" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E. and Lua error in Module:parameters at line 376: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "ku" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E., respectively; does that mean they're undeclinable? Thanks for your help and sorry about posting so many questions! — I.S.M.E.T.A. 13:58, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
- Hi,
- in the sense "A veiling with or concealment in clouds." "ewrkirin" equates to the English obnubilation. Yes, the phrases Lua error in Module:parameters at line 376: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "ku" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E. and Lua error in Module:parameters at line 376: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "ku" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E. are gerunds.
- "tarîkirin" and "ewrkirin" are substantived forms of "tarî kirin" and "ewr kirin" and they are declinable.-- best regards--GeorgeAnimal. 19:38, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
- OK, thank you. I have [[Special:Diff/41832121|verified Lua error in Module:parameters at line 376: Parameter 1 should be a valid language or etymology language code; the value "ku" is not valid. See WT:LOL and WT:LOL/E. accordingly]]. What should I do with
