[edit]Formed as *rězati (“to cut”) + *-ъkъ, from Proto-Indo-European *wreh₁ǵ-. Could be also seen as k-extension of the athematic counter-part (u-stem) of *rězvъ (“frisky, quick, energetic”) (wo-stem).
