In case it's not clear, this category is intended for the "overall" characters, not individual variants. This means that characters shouldn't be added to this category just because they are a shinjitai variant of a traditional Chinese character.
Here's the list of kokuji list from sci.lang.japan newsgroup.
Note that not all of these character belong in this category because quite a few have acquired a Chinese or at least a Korean usage as well. Another category just for kokuji would not be a bad idea.
The category currently has more characters than this list. It's quite likely that some of our character entries are simply missing the Chinese and/or Korean information. When the missing info is added, such characters should be removed from the category of course.

Kokuji subsequently adopted by other countries
[edit]Since some kokuji have gone on to be used in other counries, the way this category is named does not really mean the same thing as kokuji. Kokuji means a character was invented in Japan. "Japanese-only CJKV Characters" suggests that a character was not used outside of Japan. These are two different concepts. For this reason I think we also need a Category:Japanese kokuji or such. As an example, 働 seems to have been used in Korea and has a Korean reading even though it was originally devised in Japan. — hippietrail 02:00, 18 January 2008 (UTC)
- Agreed; as discussed above, some Japanese-coined characters are used in Japanese only, while others are used outside Japanese. I’ve thus created two new categories:
- Enjoy, and please help categorize!
