  1. (past-tense suffix) Forms the third-person plural past tense of verbs (indefinite conjugation).
    köszönt (to greet) + ‎-öttek → ‎köszöntöttek (they (have/had) greeted)
    Udvariasan köszöntöttek minket az utcán.They greeted us politely on the street.
    süt (to bake) + ‎-öttek → ‎sütöttek (they (have/had) baked)
    Süteményeket sütöttek az ünnepre.They baked cookies for the holiday.

    -tek is added to most front-vowel verbs
    -ttak is added to back-vowel verbs ending in a vowel (, , szí; ó, ; )

    -ottak is added to back-vowel verbs ending in two consonants or a long vowel + t, or to monosyllables ending in -t (fut, nyit, except lát)
