Unknown. Probably cognate with Kashmiri खू॑न्ज़ुन् (khū॑nzun, “to pluck”).
Perhaps inherited from Sanskrit कर्षति (karṣati, “to pull”) with influence from 𑀅𑀇𑀁𑀘𑀇 (aïṃcaï), 𑀅𑀬𑀁𑀙𑀇 (ayaṃchaï, “to pull”), from Sanskrit *अत्यञ्चति (atyañcati), from अञ्चति (añcati, “to pull”).[2]
Compare also *𑀖𑀺𑀘𑁆𑀘𑀇 (*ghiccaï, “to drag, pull”) (>Nepali घिच्नु (ghicnu), Sindhi گهيچڻ (ghīcaṇu)) and *𑀨𑀺𑀁𑀘𑀇 (*phiṃcaï, “to scatter”) (>Nepali फिंज्नु (phiñjnu)).[1]
Verb
[edit]𑀔𑀁𑀘𑀇 (khaṃcaï) (Devanagari खंचइ, Kannada ಖಂಚಇ) (transitive) (Māhārāṣṭrī) [3]
