Etymology 1
[edit]Schussler (2007) relates it to 匡 (OC *kʰʷaŋ), 腕 (OC *qoːns), 冤 (OC *qon), & 枉 (OC *qʷaŋʔ). Allofams are possibly 弧 (OC *ɡʷlaː), 委 (OC *qrol, *qrolʔ), and 夭 (OC *qoːwʔ, *qrow, *qrowʔ), which Coblin (1986) (apud Schuessler, 2007) considers as cognate to Tibetan ཡོ་བ (yo ba, “oblique, aslant”), གཡོ་བ (g.yo ba, “tilt”), གཡོས (g.yos); however, see 夭 (yāo). Ratliff (2010) links it with Proto-Hmong-Mien *qʷuw (“far”).
