Ideogrammic compound (會意 / 会意) : 舛 + 囗 – footsteps around an enclosure. Possibly the original character for 圍 (OC *ɢʷɯl, *ɢʷɯls, “to surround”). Phonetically borrowed to indicate "tanned leather".
