[edit]From *ბჟა (*bja, “sun”) + -შ (-ş, genitive case marker) + დღა (dğa, “day”). *ბჟა (*bja) ultimately goes back to Proto-Kartvelian *mz₁e-.
Cognate with Mingrelian ჟაშხა (žašxa).
