[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *ćradᶻdʰáH (“faith, trust, belief”), from Proto-Indo-European *ḱred-dʰh₁-éh₂, from *ḱred dʰeh₁- (“to place one's heart, to believe”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬰𐬭𐬀𐬰𐬛𐬁 (zrazdā), Latin crēdō (“I believe”), Old Irish creitid.
