[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *ḱred-dʰh₁-éh₂, from *ḱr̥dés (“heart”) + *dʰeh₁- (“to do, place”). Cognate with Proto-Italic *krezðō and Proto-Celtic *kreddīti.
