Etymology

Inherited from Prakrit *𑀮𑀟𑀺𑀓𑁆𑀓 (*laḍikka).[1] Related to the lexicographically-attested Sanskrit लाडिक (lāḍika, boy, servant), लट्व (laṭva, dancing boy) लट (laṭa, fool), and thus may ultimately come from लट् (laṭ, to act like a child) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓𑁆𑀓- (-kka-).[2] Cognate to Awadhi लड़का (laṛkā), Punjabi ਲਡ਼ਕਾ (laṛkā), Bengali লেড়কা (leṛoka).
