Etymology

From *rać- (to bind, tie), whence also Sanskrit रश्मि (raśmí), रशना (raśanā́). Cognate with Middle Persian lsn' (rasan), Persian رسن (rasan). Compare also Old Armenian առասան (aṙasan), an Iranian borrowing.
