Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Proto-Indo-Aryan *ráźȷ́uṣ, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *rázǰuš, form Proto-Indo-European *résg-u-s, from *(H)resg- (“to weave, plait”). Cognate with Latin restis, Russian ро́зга (rózga), Lithuanian rezgti. Compare also Old Armenian երագազ (eragaz), an Iranian borrowing.
