Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *yówg-yo-s (“draught animal, fit for yoking”), from *yewg- (“to yoke”). See योग (yoga) and युज् (yuj) for more; outside of Indic, cognate with Proto-Germanic *jaukiją (“draught animal”) (whence Old Norse eykr).
