Etymology 1

Inherited from Prakrit 𑀩𑁄𑀳𑀡 (bohaṇa) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀇𑀓𑀸- (-ikā-), from Sanskrit बोधन (bodhana, waking, awakening), from the root बुध् (budh).[1][2]
