Etymology

    Inherited from Prakrit *𑀘𑀫𑁆𑀫𑀓𑁆𑀓 (*cammakka), ultimately onomatopoeic.[1] Related to चौंकना (ca͠uknā). Cognate with Punjabi ਚਮਕਣਾ (camkaṇā) / چَمَکنا (camaknā), Gujarati ચમકવું (camakvũ), Marathi चमकणे (ċamakṇe).
