[edit]Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀘𑀫𑁆𑀫𑀓𑁆𑀓 (*cammakka), from an onomatopoeic 𑀘𑀫𑁆𑀫 (camma) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓𑁆𑀓- (-kka-).[1] Related to چونکنا (cauṅknā). Cognate with Punjabi ਚਮਕਣਾ (camkaṇā) / چَمَکنا (camaknā), Gujarati ચમકવું (camakvũ), Marathi चमकणे (ċamakṇe).
