Compare Hebrew שָׁוֶה (shavé) and Arabic سَوِيّ (sawiyy). The sense of “colon” is a learned borrowing from Classical Syriac ܫ̈ܘܲܝܵܐ (šwayyā), its plural form; compare also borrowed into Hebrew שְׁוָא (shva), therefore cognate of English schwa and doublet of ܫܘܵܐ (šwā).
