[edit]From Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (ʾwylʾn' /awērān/). Cognate with Parthian 𐭀𐭅𐭉𐭓𐭍 (ʾwyrn, “ruin, destruction”) and akin to Old Armenian աւեր (awer), աւերանք (awerankʻ), աւերակ (awerak).
