Etymology 1

    Related to جَنّ (jann, covering, protecting), the sense of a paradise being borrowed from Classical Syriac ܓܰܢܬܳܐ (gannəṯā) or Middle Persian. Compare Hebrew גַּן (gan), Aramaic גִּנָּא (ginnā), Ugaritic 𐎂𐎐 (gn).
