Etymology

Identical to the verb سقر (to burn up, scorch, damage with heat). Compare Akkadian 𒄿𒊕𒄫 (i-šaq-qir /⁠šaqāru, išaqqir⁠/, to pierce, to decimate) and Egyptian sqr (to strike, smite, beat with metal).
