Usage notes

[edit]

Similarly to the situation in the British Isles, where citizens of the United Kingdom are either English, Irish, Scottish, ot Welsh, inhabitants of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania are either מעקלענבורגער m (meklenburger, Mecklenburgers) or פּאָמעראַניענער m (pomeranyener, Pomeranians); no combined form for all inhabitants of the Bundesland is used.

The adjectival form מעקלענבורג־פּאָמעראַניעניש (meklenburg-pomeranyenish, Meckelnburg-Pomeranian) does exist, but is nearly-exclusively used to refer to governmental institutions of the state, as in פֿאַרטרעטערשאַפֿט מעקלענבורג־פּאָמעראַניענישער דער פֿון בנין דער (“the building of the Meckelburg-Pomeranian parliament”).

It is however still more common to say מעקלענבורג־מערבֿ פּאָמעראַניע פֿון (“of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania”) in these situations, rendering the previous name as מעקלענבורג־מערבֿ פּאָמעראַניע פֿון פֿאַרטרעטערשאַפֿט דער פֿון בנין דער.
