Etymology
[edit]Univerbation of з (z, “from”) + покон (pokon, “the beginning”) (obsolete) + ві́ку (víku, “of the age”) genitive singular of вік (vik, “age, era, eon”). Compare Russian споко́н веку (spokón veku). Further from Old East Slavic конъ (konŭ, “limit”), from Proto-Slavic *konъ (“beginning, end”).
