Learned borrowing from New Latin telescopium, from Ancient Greek τηλεσκόπος (tēleskópos, far-seeing) + -ιον (-ion), from τηλε- (tēle-, far) +‎ σκοπέω, σκοπῶ (skopéō, skopô, to look).[1]
