[edit]Learned borrowing from Koine Greek παραίσθησις (paraísthēsis, “misperception”) with semantic loan from French hallucination.[1] By surface analysis, παρ- (par-) + αίσθηση (aísthisi).

Usage notes
[edit]- παραίσθηση (paraísthisi) denotes a misperception of an external sensory stimulus. By contrast, ψευδαίσθηση (psevdaísthisi) denotes a hallucination arising in the mind in the absence of an external sensory stimulus.
