[edit]From ψευδ- (psevd-, “pseudo-”) + αίσθηση (aísthisi, “feeling”), on the model of παραίσθηση (paraísthisi).[1] First attested as Katharevousa ψευδαίσθησις (psevdaísthisis) in 1888.[2]

Usage notes
[edit]- ψευδαίσθηση (psevdaísthisi) denotes a hallucination arising in the mind in the absence of an external sensory stimulus. By contrast, παραίσθηση (paraísthisi) denotes a misperception of an external sensory stimulus.
