Etymology

    From Proto-Indo-European *kʷeh₁t- (to shake). Cognate with Latin quatiō (to shake), Proto-Celtic *kʷāti- (chaff, husks) (whence Old Irish cáith), and possibly Proto-Tocharian *kät- (to strew).[1]
