[edit]Calque of French serre chaude (literally “hot "squeezed (space)"”); by surface analysis, θερμο- (thermo-) + κήπος (kípos) + -ιο (-io).[1] Attested since 1856 in Katharevousa as θερμοκήπιον (thermokípion).[2]
