[edit]From Proto-Hellenic *wérgon, from Proto-Indo-European *wérǵom. Cognates include Old English weorc (English work), Avestan 𐬬𐬀𐬭𐬆𐬰𐬆𐬨 (varəzəm) (Persian وَرز (varz)), and Old Armenian գործ (gorc).
