Etymology

Learned borrowing from Koine Greek ἐκνευρίζω (ekneurízō, to cut the tendons) with semantic loan from French (s’)énerver.[1] By surface analysis, εκ- (ek-) +‎ νεύρ(ο) (névr(o)) +‎ -ίζω (-ízo).
