[edit]Learned borrowing from Byzantine Greek εκνευρισμός (ekneurismós, “cutting of tendons”) with adaptation to modern meaning of εκνευρίζω (eknevrízo, “to irritate”). By surface analysis, εκνευρίζω (eknevrízo) + -μός (-mós).[1]
