[edit]Learned borrowing from Koine Greek ἀπόχρωσις (apókhrōsis, “adding color”) + the modern suffix -ση (-si), from ἀπό- (apó-) + the root underlying χρώς (khrṓs, “complexion”) + -σις (-sis), with semantic loan from French coloration.[1]
