Learned borrowing from Koine Greek ἀπομακρύνω (apomakrúnō), from ἀπό- (apó-) +‎ μακρύνω (makrúnō), the latter a verbal formation from μακρός (makrós, long, tall, far), with semantic loan from French éloigner.[1]
