Etymology
[edit]From Ancient Greek ἄνοιξις (ánoixis, “opening”), from ἀνοιγ (anoig) + -ση (-sē); see ᾰ̓νοίγω (ănoígō) for more. Displaced earlier Ancient Greek ἔαρ (éar).
